Students from the Faculty of Global and Science Studies went on a five-day study tour in Kenya
Two students from the Faculty of Global and Science Studies(FGSS) at Yamaguchi University, along with two faculty members and Professor Hayasaka, Chair of the Programme Steering Committee, participated in a five-day study tour in Nairobi from 4th to 8th March 2024.
On the 4th and 5th, they visited the University of Nairobi. They greeted their counterparts, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences(FASS) and exchanged views with the heads of departments on future exchanges. Additionally, they paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, building a positive relationship towards the continuation of the exchange.

Visit by the delegation from Yamaguchi University Japan | Department of History & Archeology (uonbi.ac.ke)On the 6th and 7th, fieldwork was conducted in the suburbs of Nairobi to verify the hypothesis set in the online meetings prior to the study tour. The students visited a local clinic, a primary school, and a maternity clinic, all located about an hour away from the city. They learned about the current situation and efforts to resolve issues from various people and institutions. This included speaking with a graduate of our university, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, who currently works at JICA Kenya office, as well as Japanese staff members of the NUITM.
On the final day, the group headed to Nairobi National Park early in the morning to see Kenya's magnificent nature and wildlife, concluding a fulfilling study trip in Nairobi.
The results of the verification and the information gathered in Kenya will be shared with the participants of the online meetings. A final report session will be scheduled for late March.
