We held Talk Show on International Cooperation [Africa-Asia] #4
On December 20, 2023, the 4th International Cooperation Talk Show was held in the lecture room of the Faculty of Economics.
The first half of the lecture was given by Dr. Iizumi from the University of Tsukuba Hospital, who spoke about women's cancer and its treatment and prevention. He is also a graduate of our university (Faculty of Economics, 2002) and is currently a hospital lecturer in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Tsukuba Hospital. Starting from the mechanism of cancer, he talked about prevention, early detection and treatment of breast and cervical cancer in women. Using data and figures related to cancer by region and country around the world, the explanation was easily understood.
In the latter half of the lecture, Ms. Lydia Langata and Ms. Rosalia Makau, first-year Kenyan students in the doctoral program of the Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, gave a lecture on gender and zoonosis in Kenya. Since agriculture accounts for 30% of GDP in Kenya, many people live with livestock, and there are more than 10 nature reserves in the country, where a wide variety of wild animals live. This means that humans, livestock, and wildlife are very close to each other, and infectious diseases transmitted through animals have been an issue for many years. They also mentioned that there are complex issues related to gender, such as poverty and regional disparities, which are difficult to see from the numbers alone.

Through this event, we would like to provide an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the Asia-Africa region and we hope this event leads to an increase in the momentum for promoting exchange with the Asia-Africa region both inside and outside the university.
The lecture video is posted on the university website.
