Nigeria was featured at the 7th Africa Fair.
The intensive summer course "Learning About the World Through Africa" was held as part of the university’s general education curriculum (International Development Course A1) over two days, from August 7 to 8, 2024, with approximately 25 students participating.
Planned as part of the Inter-University Exchange Project adopted by MEXT in 2020, the course aimed to provide students with basic knowledge about Africa, a region rarely covered in high school education, while also helping them understand global issues such as infectious diseases, society, food security, the economy, development, and education, as well as the importance of international cooperation.
The participants, motivated by various reasons such as wanting to visit Africa, hoping to work in international cooperation, or simply having an interest in Africa, listened attentively to each lecture.
In the second half of the second day, a presentation was given by a student from Ghana currently enrolled in the Graduate School of Economics. The students actively participated in the Q&A session, asking some questions.
Currently, 23 students from Africa are enrolled at our university, which is more than a fourfold increase compared to when the Inter-University Exchange Project began. Through this course, we hope students will feel a closer connection to Africa, develop a deeper interest in various African countries, and broaden their perspectives through on-campus interactions with international students and study abroad opportunities.
