The institute of Radioisotope Research and Education is located in the Kogushi campus of Yamaguchi University in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 1971, the facility was granted permission to use radioisotopes under the Radioisotope Regulation Act (Act No. 167 of 1957). In the radiation controlled area, experiments can be carried out using various radionuclide (3H, 14C, 32P, 33P, 51Cr and 125I, etc.) as tracers for research purposes in medicine, agriculture, engineering, and science.
The main users of the facility are the School of Medicine and the affiliated hospital of the school of medicine, and it is used for research in the fields of medicine and life sciences, but it is a shared facility within the university, so it can be used by the entire Yamaguchi University. In addition to the safety management and operation of the facility, the facility also provides research support and education, such as seminars on radiation use, individual instruction on radiation safety handling, and instruction on how to use radiation measuring devices.

Before entering radiation controlled area,
you need to attend lecture for the safe handling of radioactive materials.
New subscribers, please attend at once,
the lecture and medical check in April and May or October.
Also the person who registered to continue in the next academic year,
please attend the lecture once per academic year.
There are ionizing radiation medical examination every six months.
Since the questionnaire is distributed, please be sure to submit.
In radiation controlled area, we provide equipments for measurement and experiment for shered use. Use of equipment is basically free; Use of consumables will be charged.
