Newcastle City Councillors Visit Faculty of Medicine

On Friday, 31 October 2025, two City Councillors from Newcastle, Australia, visited the Yamaguchi University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. They paid a courtesy call to Vice President Yuri Ishii and met with Dean Tsuyoshi Tanabe, and other faculty members.

Newcastle is the twin city of Ube, where the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences campus is located, and this year marks the 45th anniversary of their partnership.

Yamaguchi University has also had a MOU with the University of Newcastle since 2003, facilitating annual student exchanges through language training and student exchange, establishing a relationship of over 20 years.

Following a welcoming address by Vice President Ishii, both Vice President and Dean introduced the university and the faculty. Visiting Professor Stone Teresa then discussed the exchange with the School of Health Sciences, and Professor Yoshiyuki Asai presented his research on AI applications at the hospital.

The meeting concluded after discussions on future collaborations and the exchange of commemorative gifts. The delegation then toured the hospital facilities, including the hospital art, the air ambulance and the helipad.
