YAMAGUCHI UNIVERSITY

Courtesy call by Department of Chemistry, UCL

On September 11 2023, Professor Alethea Tabor and Dr Tracey Clarke from the Department of Chemistry, University College London (UCL), UK, paid a courtesy visit to President Tanizawa.

They were in Japan to deliver invited lectures at The 13th Choshu-London Symposium in Chemistry, which will be held the following day at the YU Tokiwa Campus. The symposium was established to strengthen academic ties between YU and UCL and has been held alternately in London and Yamaguchi. The 12th edition was scheduled to be held at the Tokiwa Campus in March 2020, but was cancelled at the last minute due to the pandemic. The 13th edition will be the first to be held since the coronavirus disaster.

As a university located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, we have conducted educational and research exchanges with UCL since conclusion of an international exchange agreement with UCL in 2007, in order to continue and revitalise the more than 150 years of history and relationship with UCL that began with the Choshu Five. We intend to continue to deepen our cooperation with the university and to develop human resources who can flexibly respond to and take on the challenges of a dramatically changing society, just as our predecessors from Yamaguchi Prefecture did when they built a new era.
