On Thursday, 3rd October 2024, Raido Lember from Estonia visited the University.

This visit followed a trip in May of this year to the Faculty of Medicine and Genome Centre at the University of Tartu in Estonia by Yamaguchi University’s Executive Trustee Matsuno, Vice-President Nabeyama for Diversity Promotion, and Mr. Suhara, Smart City Advisor for Yamaguchi City.

In the morning, Mr. Lember visited Prof. Asai’s laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine, where he received an introduction to AI and Systems Medicine. In the afternoon, he met with Prof. Tanabe, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, to discuss genome analysis in cohort studies, and then paid a courtesy visit to President Tanizawa. Following this, a meeting was held to explore a potential collaboration agreement with the University of Tartu through Mr. Lember.

He remarked, “For Estonia, I hold high expectations for the development of medical technology incorporating genome analysis and AI in collaboration with Japan”. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for the University, which is currently preparing for academic and research exchanges with the University of Tartu, to lay the foundation for a future collaborative relationship.
