We held Talk Show on International Cooperation #5
On June 12, 2024, the 5th International Cooperation Talk Show was held in the lecture room of the Faculty of Economics. This time, the talk focused on the international cooperation required in the world and sustainable economic development including their own experiences and analysis.
The first half of the lecture was given by Ms. Emi Kanehira, a former JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer Nutritionist in Kenya. She introduced how she taught hand washing at a local primary school and improved the eating habit for malnutrition parents and children using Maternal & Child Health Handbook at a dispensary. We heard the story of how she continued her activities day after day, despite being confused by the gap between the activities she had envisioned as an Overseas Cooperation Volunteer and the perception of the local residents, and were able to learn about the various style of international cooperation activities.
Following the Ms. Kanehira’s speech, Ray Asada, Ph.D., the lecturer of Faculty of Economics of Yamaguchi University gave a lecture on the potential for rural-sustained development, with a focus on Sri Lanka. Recommendations were made on necessary measures to promote the economic development of the country without relying on centralized metropolises, and this lecture was a good opportunity for us to think about the survival of rural towns and national economic development.
Both speakers gave very light-hearted lectures, and this event was an excitement befitting the first Talk Show of this academic year.

Through this event, we would like to provide an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the Asia-Africa region and we hope this event leads to an increase in the momentum for promoting exchange with the Asia-Africa region both inside and outside the university.
The lecture is posted here.
