Prof. David Alexander from UCL visited YU
On Friday 21 June 2024, Professor David Alexander from University College London (UCL), UK, visited Yamaguchi University. He took a tour at the Faculty of Science and paid a courtesy visit to the President Yukio Tanizawa and Vice-President Yuri Ishii for International Cooperation.
The Professor of Emergency Planning and Management, who specialises in disaster reduction and risk management, including the establishment of the first master of Civil Protection course at the University of Florence in Italy, has been collaborating with the Center for Research and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing (YUCARS), Yamaguchi University for education and research collaboration since 2022.
This time, while lecturing in the Faculty of Engineering, the professor also made a visit to the Department of Geosphere Science in the Faculty of Science, where he was able to see the volcanic landforms with a mirror stereoscope, as well as rocks and ores with great interest. In his first meeting with the Vice-President Yuri Ishii in almost a year and his first courtesy call on the President Yukio Tanizawa, he spoke sometimes humourously about Italy and UCL, where he lives and works.
UCL and YU have a long history of academic and research collaboration. We hope to continue this in the new field, which will bring further growth for both universities.
