About DPMG

Greeting

センター長

I am Motoyuki Suzuki, the Director of Center for Local Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

This center was established based on the "Center for Local Disaster Prevention and Mitigation - Creation of SDGs Glocal Community to Achieve Safety and Security-" adopted in the 2020 Yamaguchi University Research Center Group Formation Project, and a total of 27 researchers from the university are participating.

Until now, there was no center named "Disaster Prevention" at our university. We have established this center because we believe that we need a center that leads local disaster prevention/mitigation and crisis management in response to the recent heavy rain disasters and the imminent Nankai Trough earthquake. The mission of this center is to protect people from natural disasters and devise ways to sustainably develop the city while responding to unknown infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

We now know that natural disasters occur all over the world and infectious diseases spread quickly on a global scale. The center will promote research activities that contribute to the safety and security of not only the region but also the entire country and other countries in cooperation with the existing research bases on campus.

In particular, in disaster prevention and mitigation, we believe that peacetime cooperation with related organizations is indispensable. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
