"Basics of respiratory chain research and its application development"
~ Respiratory chain as a chemical reaction and respiratory chain as a core system ~」
March 9, 2013 Saturday(Yamaguchi University Common Education Building No. 2 Classroom)
Breathing chain research, which has a long history, is about to enter a paradigm shift due to new developments caused by the rapid development of science and technology in recent years.
How well is the respiratory chain as a chemical reaction understood, and what kind of application is expected?
On the other hand, the respiratory chain controls global metabolism, and the function as the backbone system of cells that support life activities is beginning to be seen.
We hope that this symposium will be an opportunity to consider the issues and future prospects of respiratory chain research and the direction of research in the next generation by organizing information on the respiratory chain as a chemical reaction and the respiratory chain as a core system.

"Development of medium- and high-temperature microbiology as a measure against global warming”
-Elucidation of the principle and industrial use-
June 9, 2011(Thursday)
Campus Innovation Center Tokyo/International Conference Room
(〒108-0023 3-3-6 Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo)
"Medium and High Temperature Microbial Research Center" Symposium "Development of medium- and high-temperature microbiology as a measure against global warming-elucidation of its principle and industrial use-" was held.
At this symposium, centered on the center members,Prof.Yamada(Faculty of Agriculture)・Prof.Hoshida(Faculty of Engineering)・Prof.Misumi(Faculty of Science)・Prof.Matsusita(Faculty of Agriculture)・Prof.Akada(Faculty of Engineering)gave a lecture on the progress of research related to medium- and high-temperature microorganisms,"Genome-wide analysis of microorganisms and heat resistance principle", "Effective use of heat resistance mechanism of microthermophilic algae , "Development of high-temperature fermentation system for ethanol and acetic acid using heat-resistant fermenting microorganisms", etc.
It showed the direction of new microbial utilization in the era of "global warming and power saving", and 51 people, mainly corporate researchers and researchers from government offices in the suburbs of Tokyo, showed great excitement.
The symposium began with a speech by Vice President Miike and Research, followed by an introduction to the center's activities by the center director Matsushita, and ended with a speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Yamauchi.
"A New Turn in Microbiology upon Global Warming"
November 19, 2009
Location: University Hall Large Hall,Yamaguchi University
To commemorate the opening of the Research Center for Thermotolerant Microbial Resources, a symposium entitled "A New Turn in Microbiology upon Global Warming" was held.
Following the remarks by Vice President Nishida, the director of the center, Matsushita, introduced the purpose, organization, and activities of the center.
After that, in addition to invited lectures by Associate Professor Gunjana Theeragool of Casesart University, Associate Professor Yoichi Suzuki of Kyoto University, Professor Satoshi Minamizawa of Tohoku University, and Visiting Professor Kazuki Onodera of Institute of Technology, Mamoru Yamada and Tokai from this center. Masahisa and Masahiro Fujishima (Visiting Professor, Faculty of Science) gave lectures from the standpoints of fermentation, pathogenesis, and environmental microorganisms, respectively.
As the last speaker, Professor Onodera, said, "Research on the separation, analysis, and utilization of medium- and high-temperature microorganisms based on the physiology and ecology of microorganisms, which no one has ever looked at, is increasing. It is expected to become more important.
The number of participants was 125, including 4 teachers from Thailand and Vietnam, and the meeting was closed with the hope of developing this center.
In September 2009, the Medium and High Temperature Microbial Center attached to the Faculty of Agriculture was opened.
This center is a center for systematically researching the mechanism for acquiring high temperature resistance of normal temperature microorganisms adapted to medium and high temperature environments and the application development of their functions.
This is an integrated microbiology program that is unparalleled in Japan and overseas, and develops by integrating the three fields of fermenting microorganisms, pathogenic microorganisms, and environmental microorganisms.
Through research on medium- and high-temperature functional microorganisms, this center has various activities such as production of useful substances, production of alternative energy, development of environmental purification methods, elucidation of infection mechanism, establishment of disease diagnosis methods, and elucidation of infectious disease transmission routes. It is expected to develop in the field.

In 2009, we launched the domestic "Acetic Acid Bacteria Study Group" based on the International Acetobacter Conference.
The 2009 study group is scheduled to be held in a training camp format around November in the suburbs of Tokyo with Professor Kainuma (Tokyo University of Agriculture) as the caretaker.
1.Purpose
This study group will be a place for exchanging information on the progress of acetobacter research, including unfinished research.
As much as possible, make discussions centered on research by young people (including students) and companies.
As dealt with at the international conference, the content covers a wide range of acetobacters (classification phylogenetics / ecology, physiology / biochemistry, oxidative fermentation and production of useful substances, traditional vinegar brewing, bioprocess / biotechnology). To do.
2.System (Secretariat and caretaker)
This study group separates the secretariat and the study group caretaker.
The secretariat will be located in the Applied Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Yamaguchi University, and will be responsible for the maintenance and public relations (homepage) of this study group.
Every year, the study group takes turns to decide the caretaker, who is responsible for the schedule, venue, planning / operation, and guidance of the meeting.
For the time being, a part of the International Conference Executive Committee (Matsushita, Toyama, Kainuma, Takamoto, Hoshino, Yakushi) will function as the secretary (steering committee) of this study group.
3.Holding a study group
It will be held in a training camp format around November in the suburbs of Tokyo, with Professor Kainuma (Tokyo University of Agriculture) as the caretaker.
If possible, be able to provide guidance in July-August.
