Admission Policy

The Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University aims to cultivate the next generation of veterinary educators and researchers, while also developing leading veterinary professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills, and practical abilities of advanced veterinary specialists and individuals who can contribute to the development of a prosperous human and global society. To this end, we seek students who match the following profile.

We seek students who:

[5] Possess a deep sense of humanity and demonstrate a strong drive for self-improvement.

Basic Policy for Applicant Selection

To admit students with the appropriate abilities and aptitudes to receive education in the Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University, we will evaluate and select applicants based on a comprehensive and multifaceted assessment of the capabilities and qualities we seek.

For the general entrance examination, assessment will be conducted through written and oral examinations.

Diploma Policy

The Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University aims to cultivate the next generation of veterinary educators and researchers, while also developing leading veterinary professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills, and practical abilities of advanced veterinary specialists and individuals who can contribute to the development of a prosperous human and global society. In order to achieve this, the following Diploma Policy of the Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine has been established based on the Diploma Policy of Yamaguchi University. The degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is awarded to students who have met these requirements and passed the dissertation defense and final examination.

[1]Advanced Expertise and Academic Knowledge
Students will acquire cutting-edge scientific technologies in veterinary medicine and be able to conduct research based on advanced academic expertise and skills [DP1].
[2]Broad Intellectual Foundation
Students will be able to communicate practically to engage in international research environments in the field of veterinary science and veterinary medicine [DP2].
[3]Autonomy, Collaboration, and Implementation Skills
  1. Based on a scientific understanding of life, logical thinking, and a high sense of bioethics and research ethics, students will be able to address or solve various issues surrounding veterinary science as researchers or advanced specialists, with their own awareness of problems [DP3-1].
  2. Students will be able to play active roles in society with a high level of leadership [DP3-2].

Curriculum Policy

The Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University has established the following policies regarding curriculum, educational content, educational methods, and evaluation of learning outcomes in order for students to fulfill the Diploma Policy.

1.Curriculum and Educational Content

The curriculum for the Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine consists of Core Curriculum Elements (Non-specialized Subjects, Specialized Subjects, Advanced Practical-Skill Subjects, and Special Professional Subjects) and Elective Elements (Researcher Training Subjects).

"Non-specialized Subjects" aim to develop highly skilled researchers and proficient veterinary specialists by providing students with a broad and advanced veterinary knowledge beyond their specific field of study through lectures offered by faculty members from both universities [DP1].

"Specialized Subjects" aim to enhance the knowledge and competencies of veterinary specialists who can work internationally by developing research ethics, codes of conduct, intellectual property management skills, and specialized English proficiency [DP2, DP3-1].

"Advanced Practical-Skill Subjects" aim to develop practical communication and presentation skills to engage in international research environments in the field of veterinary science and veterinary medicine , as outlined in the Diploma Policy [DP2].

"Special Professional Subjects" aim to develop the ability to address or solve various issues surrounding veterinary science as advanced specialists by comprehensively practicing the knowledge, techniques, and practical skills specified in specialist certification systems, veterinarian certification systems, and professional association membership qualifications established by veterinary academic organizations [DP3-1].

"Researcher Training Subjects" aim to provide students with advanced specialized knowledge and techniques necessary for promoting research in their focused area of study [DP3-1].

In the first three years, students engage in Special Lectures, Special Exercises, and Special Experiments across various subjects, cultivating doctoral-level expertise and acquiring cutting-edge scientific technologies in veterinary medicine, thus fostering their development as social leaders [DP1, DP3-2].

In the fourth year, students prepare their doctoral dissertation based on their research findings. Through mentorship emphasizing scientific comprehension of life and logical thinking, we aim to nurture researchers or advanced specialists who can identify problems on their own and address or solve various issues surrounding veterinary science [DP3-1].


2.Educational Methods

To cultivate the abilities outlined in the Diploma Policy, we will conduct educational activities using methods appropriate to the purpose and objectives of each subject.

We will introduce active learning to promote students' independent learning, and conduct inquiry-based, problem-solving, and practical education.

Classes will be conducted in in-person and interactive media formats or using video-on-demand and E-learning systems.

We will use lecture-style classes as the primary method for solidifying knowledge. Knowledge application and skills will be taught through seminars and experiments, while generic skills will be cultivated through practical activities such as discussions, group work, and presentations.


3.Evaluation of Learning Outcomes

Each subject will clearly define educational and learning objectives along with evaluation criteria. Learning outcomes will be strictly evaluated based on examinations and reports.

The overall learning outcomes for the four-year program will be comprehensively evaluated through the number of credits earned by the fourth year, in addition to the "doctoral dissertation."
