Proof-of-concept study of the caninized anti-canine programmed death 1 antibody in dogs with advanced non-oral malignant melanoma solid tumors
A research group from the Yamaguchi University Joint Veterinary Medical School, in collaboration with Nippon Zenyaku Kogyo Co., Ltd., has developed “ca-4F12-E6,” a drug for treating malignant tumors in dogs.
While previous research confirmed its efficacy against oral melanoma, a new clinical trial was conducted on 38 dogs with advanced malignant tumors to clarify its effects on other tumors.
Analysis revealed a “complete response”—complete tumor disappearance—in one dog each with squamous cell carcinoma and undifferentiated sarcoma. Tumor shrinkage was also confirmed in a lung cancer case. These results suggest the drug could become a new treatment option for canine tumors beyond oral melanoma.
These research findings were published in advance on January 11, 2024, in the Journal of Veterinary Science.
