Nuclear actin assembly is an integral part of decidualization in human endometrial stromal cells
A research group from Yamaguchi University and Kyushu University has revealed for the first time worldwide that “decidualization,” essential for human embryo implantation, is controlled by changes in the dynamics of actin proteins within the cell nucleus.
Decidualization is essential for establishing and maintaining pregnancy, and its abnormalities cause infertility; however, the detailed regulatory mechanism remained unknown. This study revealed that a specialized structure where actin fibrillates appears within human cell nuclei during decidualization, and that this nuclear actin fibrillation plays a crucial role in inducing decidualization.
This discovery unravels a new mechanism of human implantation and is expected to contribute to the development of new treatments for infertility patients struggling with implantation failure.
