Comparison of post ablation left atrial volume index versus left atrial reverse remodeling for prognostic events in persistent atrial fibrillation

A research group led by Assistant Professor Ishiguchi, Lecturer Yoshiga, and Professor Sano at Yamaguchi University has discovered a new method for predicting long-term prognosis in persistent atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is an arrhythmia that increases with aging and frequently leads to heart failure.

Catheter ablation, a curative treatment, has the effect of reducing left atrial volume (reverse remodeling). Previous studies suggested that both post-ablation left atrial volume and reverse remodeling are associated with prognosis, but it was unclear which was superior for predicting long-term cardiovascular events.

This study directly compared these two indicators and clarified their detailed relationship. This is expected to enable more accurate prognosis prediction.
