*Report* External Lecturer Seminar Held
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, a seminar titled “Understanding Intractable Leukemia and Developing New Therapies” was held in the Seminar Room on the 5th floor of Ishukan, Kogushi Campus.
We were honored to welcome Dr. Fumihiko Ishikawa from the Department of Comprehensive Pathology at the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Institute of Science Tokyo, and the Laboratory for Human Disease Models at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences.
Dr. Ishikawa shared his extensive research on replicating patient-specific pathologies, such as leukemia, which led to his successful development of humanized mouse models. He provided a detailed explanation of his decade-long journey in reproducing leukemic conditions to deepen the understanding of intractable leukemia and drive the development of innovative treatments.
During his talk, he emphasized his core philosophy: “From clinical practice to research—bringing research results back to the bedside.” He also touched upon the significance of diversity and basic research, stressing that we have entered an era where we must tackle medical challenges through a collective, cross-disciplinary effort.
The enthusiasm continued at the institute’s New Year’s gathering following the seminar, where Dr. Ishikawa was flooded with questions, reflecting the high level of engagement among the participants.
Through initiatives like this, our institute remains committed to achieving its mission and making further leaps in medical advancement.
