*Announcement* Press Conference and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the Establishment of the Company was held.

Yamaguchi University established a new research institute, “Research Institute for Cell Design and Medical Science (RICeD)” on October 1, 2023. The Institute was established through a developmental reorganization based on the interdisciplinary fusion of the Research Center for Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy, established in 2008, and the Research Center for Advanced Genome Editing Therapy and Drug Discovery, established in 2022.

The Institute, headed by Professor Koji Tamada of the Department of Immunology, Graduate School of Medicine, who is currently promoting the development of next-generation CAR-T cell therapy, aims to become an international research and development center that will successively create seeds for next-generation cell therapy and gene therapy based on innovative cell design technology, which is a strength of the university.

In conjunction with the establishment of the institute, a press conference and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held on October 5. At the press conference, President Yukio Tanizawa of the University of Tokyo first expressed his aspirations for the institute, saying, “We would like to become one of the world’s leading research and development centers by mobilizing all of the university’s resources.

The Institute will contribute to the creation of a society in which people and companion animals can live long, healthy lives and coexist in harmony by developing and promoting advanced cancer immunotherapy, leading to the cure of many patients, and creating a virtuous cycle in which the world’s first genome-edited treatment of genetic diseases is applied to companion animals, and the results are fed back to human medicine. We will contribute to the creation of a society in which people and companion animals can live long and healthy lives in harmony.
