*Announcement* Received the 2024 National Commendation for Invention, Future Invention Encouragement Award.
Dr. Koji Tamada, Director of the Research Institute for Cell Design and Medical Science (RICeD), and Dr. Yukimi Sakoda and Dr. Keishi Adachi (both from the Advanced Cell Therapy Research Division) received the 2024 National Commendation for Invention, Future Invention Encouragement Award for their “Invention of immunocompetent cells expressing immune function regulating factors”.
This award is given to inventors who have contributed to the development of science, technology, and industry in Japan, and is intended to honor inventions that are outstandingly progressive in terms of science and technology, and that are related to research institutions such as small and medium-sized companies, venture businesses, universities, and public experimental and research institutes, and are either being implemented effectively in creating a future society, or are expected to achieve significant implementation effects in the future. The prize is awarded to inventions that have been or are expected to be highly effective in creating the future society, and that are recognized as particularly outstanding.
This invention is related to “PRIME CAR-T cells” used for cancer therapy. While conventional cells have shown high efficacy against blood cancers, it has been difficult to show efficacy against solid tumors, which led to this award.
