This symposium is part of an initiative of the International Geoscience Programme (project 585), a joint endeavor of UNESCO and the International Union of Geological Sciences. The main objective of this event is to bring a world perspective of submarine mass movements and their consequences by assembling excellent contributions from active international researchers, academic institutions and the oil and gas industry thus providing full coverage of the many scientific and engineering aspects of this type of marine and coastal geo-hazard.
